Clove

from $1.50

Whole dried cloves (Syzygium aromaticum), the unopened flower buds of an evergreen tree, with an intensely warm, aromatic character and a sweet, peppery flavor with a gentle tingle. Native to Indonesia’s Spice Islands, cloves have been traded around the world for more than 2,000 years and brewed into warming cups across Asia, Africa and Europe.

A little clove goes a long way. On its own it makes a bold, cozy tea, and it’s the backbone of chai, mulled cider and holiday spice blends. Pair it with cinnamon, ginger, cardamom or orange peel, and add a spoonful of honey.

Ingredients: Whole cloves (Syzygium aromaticum)

Hot brew: About ½ teaspoon of whole cloves (8–10 buds) or 1 tea bag per 8 oz of water. Bring to a boil, then simmer gently for 5–10 minutes. Strain and sweeten with honey.

Warm spice blend: Simmer 4 cloves with 1 cinnamon stick and a thin slice of fresh ginger in 10 oz of water for 10 minutes. Strain, then add honey and a slice of orange.

Caffeine: None. Naturally caffeine-free.

⚠️ Consult your healthcare provider. Not for use in medicinal amounts during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or by children. Use caution if you have a bleeding disorder or take blood-thinning or blood-sugar medication. Stop use 2 weeks before surgery.
