Fig leaves have lots of health benefits and can be enjoyed hot or chilled. Alone or as a part of the tea mixes. You can add honey and/or lemon as you like.
According to the USDA, figs have one of the richest sources of fiber and calcium. They also contain magnesium, copper, manganese, and vitamins A, B, C, and K. Besides these vitamins, figs are packed with antioxidants, folic acid, sodium, and zinc.
Ingredients: Fig Leaves
Brewing instructions to avoid your tea taste bitter:
Over-steeping or boiling the leaves directly in a pot for too long forces heavy plant tannins out, destroying the sweet flavor.
The Ratio: Use 1 teabag per 1 cup of water.
The Temperature: Bring your water to a boil, wait till bubbles stop coming to surface, then poor over teabag in a cup. Do not boil the leaves continuously on the stove.
The Steep: Pour the hot water over the leaves or a tea bag in a mug or infuser and let it steep for strictly 5 minutes. Do not let it sit longer. (Play around with steeping time to find your favorite taste but never go over 5 min). If you want a stronger flavor, use more leaves, do not add more time.
The Strain: take the tea bag out. Do not squeeze or press down on the tea bag with leaves, as this pushes trapped cellular bitterness into your cup.
If you happen to over-steep a batch and it turns out bitter anyway, you can salvage it by adding a splash of milk or a squeeze of lemon juice to mask the tannins.
