Safflower

from $1.50

Vibrant dried safflower petals with a light, delicate floral flavor and a brilliant golden-orange color. Enjoyed for centuries across Asia, the Middle East and the Mediterranean, safflower brews a beautiful sunset-gold cup, lovely on its own or with a touch of honey.

Known as “poor man’s saffron,” it’s also wonderful in the kitchen. Add a pinch to rice, soups, stews and sauces for a rich golden color.

Ingredients: Safflower petals (Carthamus tinctorius)

Hot brew: 1 teaspoon (or 1 tea bag) per 8 oz of water at 212°F. Steep 5 minutes. Sweeten with honey if you like.

In the kitchen: Soak a pinch of petals in 2 tablespoons of warm water for 10 minutes, then add the petals and liquid to rice, soups or stews.

Caffeine: None. Naturally caffeine-free.

⚠️Consult your healthcare provider. Not for use during pregnancy. Safflower may slow blood clotting. Avoid if you have a bleeding disorder or upcoming surgery, or if you take blood thinners. Contains herbs from the ragweed family. If you are nursing or take medication, check with your doctor before using.
